Style File NYC 3: Achieving NYLON Status
by Mel F.
What is a NYLON you ask? NYLON is a popular portmanteau referring to the single city “inconveniently separated by an ocean” London and New York. NYLON or NyLon also refers to those lucky jet-setters who pond-hop enough to call both places home. This Friday Girl’s recent trip to London taught me, if you can’t live like a NYLON you can at least look like one.
At home you can stay on trend, here and across the pond, by finding the latest Brit imports in your own backyard. FGTV visited Jigsaw, a British company that has been retailing clothes and accessories for over thirty-five years. Their first store opened in Hampstead, England in 1972 and they’ve steadily expanded to operate over 40 stores in the UK and 6 in the US. London imports like Jigsaw are springing up all over the US – making it easy to add a bit of foreign flair to your closet.
Jigsaw fashions can bring London polish to your New York cool. Here you can with the latest style and still feel you’ve added a necessary staple to your collection. With help from shopkeepers Eman and Mark we found satin walking shoes for Spring in New York, and a grey fedora for rainy days in London. Check out both their US www.jigsaw-london.com and UK www.jigsaw-online.com – Jigsaw’s online storefronts.
Companies like these expand by testing their wares in smaller but highly fashionable markets like Atlanta and Nashville. Jigsaw has a US home in Nashville, TN. Another fashion forward UK import, Karen Millen, can be found in Lenox Square Mall giving all FGTV women a chance to find the UK in you. Finally you can keep up with the very latest to hit London by checking out Hoy Fashion, a site dedicated to street fashion in the UK.
The web hosts loads of information on the route that joins these cities. For a complete guide to transatlantic commuting visit www.ft.com/pp/newyorklondon and learn more about the sibling cities. One warning before you board the next red-eye; be prepared to watch your Dollars shrink to much smaller Pounds. Happy shopping future NYLONs.
