“This Africa Light of Mine” provide sustainable living solutions and support to approximately 300+ slum dwelling children and their families located in Nairobi, Kenya. This Africa Light of Mine is part of Light Christian Ministries which has been an established non-profit for over 20 years. The school and church has been in existence for 7+ years. This Africa Light of Mine assistance includes but is not limited to: Child Sponsorships, Construction funding, Microfinance programs, Provision of a container load of school supplies, Fundraising to purchase land, and additional financial support as needed, etc.
Africa Light Christian Education Centre is currently in a precarious position. They are located on a rented piece of property, and the owners of the property are trying to sell the land. Approximately 20% of the school population services total orphans, and many more are from single parent homes. Located in Kawangware, the third largest slum in Nairobi, the average wage for a person who is working approximately 12 hours is around 2 dollars a day. What is even harder to accept is that Nairobi currently has a strong economy, similar to that of Houston, TX. So, while they make $2/day, rent, transportation, food, etc is much more than they can afford. Currently, Light Christian Education Centre feeds one hot meal a day to these 300 children. For many of them, it is the only meal they will receive. We would like to raise enough funds that the school could purchase their land and develop it into a permanent facility for the residents of Kawangware.
