Fashion Forward-Amanda Muchnick, Felice Dee

A passion for fashion, and travel. That’s what Amanda Muchnick and her mom share, and they love doing both together. Some of thier fondest memories are of rummaging through piles of colorful belts at an open-air market in Italy in search of the “one” or wandering the streets of Buenos Aires in absolute awe of the number of tiny boutiques with unbelievably beautiful designs. Read below to find out more about the fashion forward world of Amanda Muchnick..

FG: How would you describe your personal style?

Amanda Muchnick, Owner-Felice Dee

AM: I’d probably describe my style as eclectic. It isn’t always consistent from day to day. Sometimes I gravitate to really sleek looks, narrow black pants, classic oxfords and a tailored shirt. Other days I like something more casual – a checked shirt, pants with the hems rolled up, a weathered brown belt and moccasins. I find my style is also really affected by where I am and places I’ve traveled to. One of my favorite places in the world is Forte dei Marmi, a beach resort in Tuscany. When I’m there my style reflects the glitter and glam that abounds. I find myself gravitating to sparkly tees, colorful skirts and wedges. I like to find ways to infuse my wardrobe at home with pieces that remind me of the places I’ve been to. I love returning home from a trip with a new piece that I know I won’t see anyone else wearing!

FG: Name 5 items every woman should have in her closet.

AM:  A crisp white shirt, well-fitting black trousers, a sleek black blazer, black leather pumps and a great black handbag that will take you from day to evening.

FG:  Who is your fashion icon and why?

AM: My fashion icon is definitely my mom. She has an impeccable eye for detail and a distinct style. She draws inspiration from style icons of the past and reinvents them in ways that are fresh and modern. My mom tosses a scarf over her shoulder with a certain je ne sais quoi and makes it look effortless, even though it would take me 20 minutes to get it just right. I love the way she mixes tailored menswear inspired pieces with feminine accessories. She also shares and love for the unique and gravitates towards pieces that she can make her own.

FG:  What fashion trend is your least favorite?

AM: I’d have to say that my least favorite fashion trend is open-toed boots. It just doesn’t make any sense! I love boots – sporty brown ones, super soft suede over-the-knee boots, sleek and pointy black ones – in many forms. I’ve never been a big fan of open toe shoes in general (though I can definitely appreciate a beautiful sandal) but I think boots should be left alone.

FG:  What the weirdest item in your wardrobe?

Amanda Muchnick, Owner-Felice Dee

AM:  The weirdest piece in my wardrobe is definitely my tri-cornered hat. It is definitely not something that I wear very often, but it is the first thing I grab when heading to one of my favorite places, Colonial Williamsburg. There is something quite spectacular and grand about 18th century fashion – sometimes I wish I could wear one of those amazing ballgowns just for a day.

FG:  What is your style philosophy?

AM: Be true to yourself. Trends can be a source of inspiration but they certainly shouldn’t be a rule. Find ways to incorporate them into your own style. And don’t be scared to be bold. Fashion should be fun!
