Fashion Forward-Natasha Malinsky, Shop NYC Tours

Upon moving to NYC, Natasha Malinsky became a tour guide for the ever-so-popular Sex and the City Tour. After working as a licensed NYC tour guide for three years, Natasha realized the demand not only for shopping in the city, but also for living like a local. She formed ShopNYC Tours to fill tourists’ needs for unique shopping experiences. When Natasha is not giving tours, she is working in theatre, film, and television. She does voiceovers for commercials and cartoons and has also been seen Off-Broadway. Read more to jump into the fashion forward world of Natasha Malinsky..

FG: How would you describe your personal style?

Natasha Malinsky, Owner-Shop NYC Tours

NM: My personal style is a mix of Bohemian Chic and Feminine Chic.  I tend to go back and forth between the two depending on the occasion.  Boho is more my everyday look, while I dress more feminine for special events, dates and going out.  I LOVE vintage pieces from the 70s, but I also like wearing “girly” dresses and skirts from the 50s and 60s.

FG: Name 5 items every woman should have in her closet.

NM: Every woman should have an updated pair of black heels, a black pencil skirt, a flattering LBD (of course!), a black blazer and a handbag in a solid hue that pops!  These items are timeless and will never go out of style.

FG: Who is your fashion icon and why?

NM: I would have to say that my fashion icon is Marilyn Monroe.  She always looked classy, feminine and chic.  She was stunning!

FG:  What fashion trend is your least favorite?

NM: My least favorite fashion trend is draping fabrics.  I’ve tried several draping dresses and skirts on and to me, unless you are six feet tall and a size 0, they are not flattering AT ALL.

FG: What the weirdest item in your wardrobe?

NM: The weirdest item in my wardrobe is a 1960s, one-shoulder shorts jumper made with a pastel (but slightly psychedelic), swirly print!  FUN!

FG:  What is your style philosophy?NM: My style philosophy is that you don’t have to spend a million bucks to look like it.  If you know how to shop, you should be able to shop ANYWHERE (including Kmart!) and turn heads.  I have gone to parties in New York City wearing clothing that cost less than $5 and gotten compliments from people wearing the likes of YSL, Marc Jacobs and Prada.
