FG: How would you describe your personal style?

Jennifer Stano, Owner-Have Faith Swimwear

JS: My personal style is best described as a combination of fitness savvy and fashion forward. I was a former fitness model and never saw anything I truly enjoyed wearing when competing, so I decided to make my own line that represents that softer side of all the hard edge gear you see out there. My style is both flirty and empowering. I think every girl should look and feel like a goddess.

FG: Name 5 items every woman should have in her closet.

JS: At least one little black dress. It’s just the timeless staple that’s a cardinal for any woman to have. One pair of skinny jeans. Tunics are definitely a big trend this season. They’re pieces that are great for lounging by the pool, or going out at night. We have some beautiful tunics that are hand beaded in India, which match every Have Faith swim suit. For the girl who is a bit more modest, a silk tunic can really add a nice amount of coverage without taking away the glamour. Sandals with a pop of color or crystal detail can also really spice up a beach look. Summer sandals can complete a head to toe look. Lastly, I would say any oversized accessory such as a floppy hat, bright sunglasses, and gold or silver bangles.

FG: Who is your fashion icon and why?

JS: I love Kate Middleton. I think she embodies the new generation of chic class meets everyday casual. I’m inspired by her ability to adapt to many different styles of dress.

FG: What fashion trend is your least favorite?
JS: Rubber shoes! Crocs should only be worn by hospital nurses and babies. I love the colors, but there’s just something about the style that doesn’t seem feminine for me.

FG: What is the weirdest item in your wardrobe?

JS: I would definitely have to say my leather corset. It was totally an unsuspected purchase for a costume, but it looked so good on, I kept it. Goes great with jeans!

FG: What is your style philosophy?

JS: My motto is that “Every woman should look and feel like a goddess.” I design with that in mind. We have a range of sizes in both American and European silhouettes. That way, any girl can look/feel like a celebrity. Most swim designers think traditionally by using different colors, prints, or patterns. I love to play with different fabrics and even hardware. Chain link details, lucite, lace, and denim, are some of our newer endeavors. Swimwear is so much more than just being practical. I’m inspired by world fashion. I travel to St. Tropez, Greece, and Italy to see what the locals love.
