Fashion Forward-Megan Dougherty-Ecoutrement
In 2010 Ecoutrement’s founder, Megan Dougherty, was searching for a clutch for a black tie event. Being eco-minded, Megan wished to find a perfectly stylish clutch that had not harmed our planet during its production. Megan easily found stores with beautiful clutches, and easily found stores with eco-friendly bags, but could not locate any stores that carried clutches that embodied both characteristics. Megan finally broke down and bought a conventional clutch, but immediately began to experience buyer’s remorse. Seeing a gap in the eco-fashion market, Megan developed the idea for Ecoutrement. She wished to sell the best selection of handbags, jewelry, and other accessories that are eco-friendly, well made, stylish, and beautiful, all well providing top notch customer service..Read on to jump into the fashion forward world of Megan Dougherty..
FG: How would you describe your personal style?
MD: My personal style is casual chic. I always wear basic pieces, usually dark denim skinnies on the bottom, with bold accessories. I try to stay away from purchasing patterns, so that my entire wardrobe is mix and match.
FG: Name 5 items every woman should have in her closet.
MD: LBD (Little Black Dress), dark wash jeans, a large and brightly colored handbag, a black or navy blazer, black flats.
FG: Who is your fashion icon and why?
MD: Audry Hepburn. Her style was always classy, and refused to be trendy. Since she stuck with simple colors and classic silhouettes it is easy to see how women dressing like her today look just as fabulous as she did in her time.
FG: What fashion trend is your least favorite?
MD: Over-sized crop tops. I was sad to see this trend return. These tops are great for 80s costume parties, but they make almost every woman look out of proportion.
FG: What the weirdest item in your wardrobe?
MD: I wore a dress for New Years Eve a couple of years ago that I absolutely love, but is not without its quirks. It is a black, one-sleeve, mini dress. The long sleeve has a large shoulder pad, and the dress is embellished with metals studs all over it. It looks very futuristic! I love how it plays with geometry, and proportion, but still shows off the feminine shape due to the fact that it is fitted throughout.
FG: What is your style philosophy?
MD: Keep it simple and buy items that you know will last through the seasons. Stay away from trends and buy a mix & match wardrobe. Accessories are the best way to change up any look.
