Melissa Williams Netherton, owner and designer of zedena lu has been designing jewelry since she was a child. Her love affair with jewelry began when her grandmother, Zedena, used to play Home Shopping Network with her. FG: How would you describe your personal style?

MWN: My personal style is very feminine. I am a girly girl, so there are lots of skirts and dresses in my closet. I would also describe my style as somewhat eclectic. I love mixing vintage items with new pieces and I also love playing with color and of course accessorizing! Shoes have become my obsession this season, particularly wedges and heels. I primarily shop at stores that feature vintage inspired clothing which tends to match very well with my vintage inspired jewelry collections, and I also love finding true vintage pieces to add to my collection.

FG: Name 5 items every woman should have in her closet.

MWN: Every woman needs a little black dress, at least one great fitting pair of jeans, a black blazer, nude heels, and at least one statement piece in her jewelry collection!

FG: Who is your fashion icon and why?

MWN: Since I tend to gravitate towards vintage inspired, feminine fashion, my fashion icon would have to be either Audrey Hepburn or Jackie Kennedy. Both of those ladies had a classic and timeless style which still influences designers today.

FG: What fashion trend is your least favorite?

MWN: I am not a big fan of the romper/jumpsuits that seem to be making a comeback this year. They look adorable on the right body type, but they just don’t work for me.

FG: What the weirdest item in your wardrobe?

MWN: The weirdest item in my wardrobe is probably the collection I have of 7 pairs of the same jeans. Once I find something I love and that fits me well, I tend to purchase multiples and so the jeans were certainly no exception!

FG: What is your style philosophy?

MWN: Wear what you love! I follow fashion trends and try to stay on top of keeping my wardrobe current, but at the same time only wearing pieces that I truly love. I believe in wearing what makes you feel beautiful, rather than just wearing something because it is in style.
