This past weekend, the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards was filmed in Atlanta. There were tons of events all over the city and of course Friday Girl found a few to participate in. The first event we attended was The Art of Music Gifting Suite, organized by Adrienne Lawson of SWAGGGirlicious & Leverage Marketing and Ms. Drama Entertainment, LLC.

Tiny's Nail Bar was there offering services to the attendees.

Guests had an opportunity to try out the new RapStar game.

Great graphics in the RapStar game.

The beverage sponsors were in full effect. We enjoyed some Ciroc cocktails.

After The Art of Music Gifting Suite, we headed over to The Diva Lounge at B. Chic Shoetique. But as big fans of shoes, we must first feature some fabulous wearable shoe art by Gasoline Glamour.

Aren't these marvelous?

If you’d like to enjoy this wearable art first hand, visit www.gasolineglamour.com.  After we enjoyed the wonderful shoes at B. Chic Shoetique, we enjoyed the wonderful event The Diva Lounge, organized by Shayna D who is a phenomenal woman in her own right. Get more info about her at www.shaynad.com. This installment of The Diva Lounge included a segment where women who have made their mark in entertainment were honored. Shante Broadus, Shanti Das, Julia Beverly and DJ Traci Steele were all honored for their professional contributions to the industry.

Conjure and Nuvo were sponsors for the event and the drinks were delish!

Saniyah of Carol's Daughter was on hand with some samples and gift bag items.

This was a busy weekend for Friday Girl and Atlanta with so many great events going on. We had a wonderful time and look forward to attending the next Diva Lounge event. If you want more info, visit www.shaynad.com/the-diva-lounge.

Last week, Princess, former member of the rap group, Crime Mob, hosted a panel discussion on women in hip-hop in Atlanta in celebration of BET’s new music documentary My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women and Hip-Hop. Panelists included music industry executive, Shanti Das; rapper, Rasheeda; V-103 DJ Traci Steele; model, Dawn Montgomery; hip-hop publicist, Dee Dee Cocheta; Eshe from Arrested Development; rapper, Khalilah Ali; Morehouse College hip-hop studies professor, Dr. Joyce (who was also in the documentary); and pop-culture expert Ronda Racha Penrice. The diversity of the panel led to heated discussions and thought-provoking dialogue such as how women in hip-hop are to balance a family and career, sexual exploitation, overcoming challenges from working in a male-dominated industry, stereotypes, having a stamp approval from a male to get into the industry, and how women in hip-hop should collaborate more.

“It’s such an honor to sit alongside such influential and talented women who are making moves in hip-hop,” says Princess, the hostess for the panel discussion. “It’s great that BET shined a light on the challenges women face in hip-hop. I am glad I was able to bring these women together to share their experiences and insight.”

The event was presented by Ella Bee PR and Kore Magazine.
