Happy Women’s Equality Day!!! 39 years ago today Representative, Bella Abzug (D-NY) got the U.S. Congress to designate August 26th as Women’s Equlaity Day. It is a salute to the efforts of a civil rights movement started by women in 1848 that eventually lead to the passage of the 19th ammendment, which allowed women to cast a ballot and vote. Let us remember that there are still some women in other parts of the world that are still fighitng to be recognized as citizens and human beings. Celebrate this day by expressing the brillance that is unique to you and only you because you are a woman. Here’ s to being a woman!!!
“The only way for a woman, as for a man, to find herself, to know herself as a person, is by creative work of her own. There is no other way,” (Betty Friedan)
“I do not wish [women] to have power over men; but over themselves,” (Mary Wollstonecraft)
“You don’t have to be anti-man to be pro-woman,” (Jane Galvin Lewis)
“Scratch most feminists and underneath there is a woman who longs to be a sex object. The difference is that is not all she wants to be,” (Betty Rollin)
“How important it is to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes.” (Maya Angelou)
“There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.” (Susan B. Anthony)
